The Lion Within

18 x 24”

Texture, acrylics and oils on canvas.

Texture is a staple in almost every painting I create, especially in my abstract work.

Working with texture in this way is more exciting for me as an artist because the outcome is unveiled to my own eyes as I finish it and I get to witness how it turns out as it progresses. Since most of the outcome is naturally achieved and relatively unintentional I can appreciate it more than if I was intensively involved in creating the shape, structure, compostion etc.

This particular work is titled The Lion Within because it looked to me like Lions in the trees or thickets. It seems to me that every other Christian artist aims to paint a lion and label it “prophetic” so I have avoided painting an actual lion to date because in my opinion it’s almost cliche to do so.
