I painted the iconic 3 cross biblical scene by chance actually. I had started an abstract painting with the canvas horizontally poised but….I butchered it so I painted over it with a black gloss enamel. I turned it vertical and got the idea of the 3 crosses while trying to figure out what would work with the texture line across the midline. I finished the painting that weekend using a palette knife to apply the black oils at The Refuge Sunday service in Rancho Cu, CA where it still hangs to this day.
